Hi everyone, I recently installed Crimson Skies, that I used to play with a former PC about 8 years ago. It doesn't run on my current PC. I've already read a lot of thread about the graphic problems on newer 3D cards. I did what is advised on those threads (instal the patch, the CS fix, etc.) Ii didn't work for me, and I still have that bug, and I haven't read anyone posting about it. It's right when launching the game, the screen 'freezes' on the welcome screen, the one where the music is played and on which you can see a zeppelin and 'The tales of Nathan Zachary' written on the right.
Once the short music ends, nothing happens, the game seeming to crash. I'd be very grateful if someone had an idea on how to fix that. (Make a backup first in case you want to uninstall later.) If you want to change the default options, open csfix.ini in a text editor and modify the appropriate lines. Fixed by disabling the high performance counter check, forcing crimson skies to fall back onto a counter that doesn't tick over so quickly.
Running in win95 compatibility mode also fixes it, although at a performance penalty. Wut, Crimson Skies supported multithreading?
That game is ANCIENT now. I got quite far into it back in the day I think, but when I reached a mainland mission (over Paris, I seem to remember) I just couldn't get any further due to the framerate dropping through the floor on my quite slow PC.
Undoubtedly one of the best releases of 2000, Crimson Skies will provide hours of thrills, spills, and the occasional erased save-game (patch before you get anywhere!). With a fast-paced storyline, a strong atmosphere, intense gameplay and a high fun factor, the only thing Crimson Skies needs to make me happy is a sequel. Description of Crimson Skies Windows Crimson Skies is a title which you may love for the game it tries to be more than for the game it is. A cross between Red Baron and Star Wars: X-Wing, Crimson Skies puts you in the role of a daring air pirate, leading his crew to booty and glory.
And years later my Microsoft Force Feedback joystick crapped itself and died so I had to junk it. Too bad, it was a pretty good joystick (although the FF mechanism used cogged gears, which tended to wear down with use.).
I have not been able to play Crimson Skies for a while now due to Nvidia graphics drivers that broke something in the game on Windows XP. The only way to fix it was to use some really old drivers and I was not willing to do that. But now that Win 7 is out, I guess the drivers don't break it anymore. I even found a couple of patches that fix the corruption in the menus and let you set your own game resolution too. Great news speedbump.
I loved the alternative parallel world thing of CS on the old xbox and in a moment of nostalgia recently I acquired the PC version but had the same issues as you after installing on XP with nvidia gpu. A real disappointment and unplayable. I guess this is a bit of a nudge to upgrade to 7 eh More vids please I'm only familiar with the xbox version which, from what your vids show at least, is vastly different to the PC version. I got Crimson Skies the other day but just can't get it running. Can you give me a hand with it? I feel like I'm missing one of the instructions.
