The first half the book was more interesting than the second half. The battles are not half so much fun as Cale, Clist, and Vague Henri's dark and humorous interactions with the great secondary characters this series has to offer.

I did not love the ending, but it was in keeping with the dark tone of the story. The casual brutality mixed with humor and the strangely likable characters have always been this series greatest strength. The ending did leave things open for a possible sequel series in the future which I'd be quite happy to read. Rating: 4 stars.
